Why It Matters

That Gray Is Not the Color of Your Concrete

Most homeowners assume a driveway just goes gray with age. It does not. What you are looking at is years of road film, tire rubber, oil, winter salt residue, and a dark organic layer of algae and mildew that has bonded into the top of the slab. Clean one section and the difference is usually startling enough that people ask us to stop so they can take a picture of the line.

The organic layer is more than cosmetic. It is what makes concrete slick in a wet October, and on the sloped driveways common in Totowa, Boonton, and the Kinnelon hillside that is a genuine hazard.

Concrete, brick, and stone can take real pressure, unlike siding and roofs, so this is where a pressure washer belongs. We use a surface cleaner rather than a wand, which is the difference between an even, uniform finish and a driveway covered in overlapping arc marks that will be visible for the next five years.

Why Nicky Blue

What sets us apart

We soft wash, we don't blast

Siding and roofs get low pressure and the right cleaning solution, so the algae dies at the root instead of just getting knocked off the surface. That is the difference between a house that stays clean for years and one that greens up again by spring.

The right approach for every job

The right pressure and solution for every surface, from vinyl and cedar siding to shingles, pavers, concrete, and weathered wood. Hard surfaces take real pressure. Roofs and siding never do.

Local to Pequannock

Owner-operated out of Pequannock, serving Morris and Passaic County, not a franchise routed in from out of town. We know what Jersey humidity and heavy tree cover do to siding and roofs here, because we clean them every day.

FAQs

Common questions about driveway and concrete cleaning in northern New Jersey.

Is my concrete dirty, or is that just the color?

Almost always dirty. That gray film is years of dust, oil, tire marks, and organic growth pressed into the surface, and most people assume it's the color of the slab. When we clean one section the difference is usually startling enough to answer the question.

Will pressure washing leave stripes on my driveway?

Not if it's done with a surface cleaner, which is what we use. Wand stripes happen when someone cleans a big flat slab with a narrow nozzle and misses the overlap. We clean evenly so the whole surface comes out one color.

What's the difference between house washing and pressure washing?

The pressure, and what it's aimed at. Hard surfaces like concrete, brick, and pavers can take real pressure, so we pressure wash those. Siding, roofs, and wood can't, so we soft wash those instead. We match the method to the material every time.

Can you get oil stains and rust out of concrete?

We pre-treat oil spots, rust, and organic growth before we ever start washing, which is what actually lifts them. Deep, old stains don't always come out completely, and we'll tell you what to expect when we look at it rather than promising and hoping.

Can you pressure wash my siding or my deck?

We won't, and that's deliberate. Pressure is right for concrete, brick, and pavers, but it drives water behind siding and furs up wood grain. Those get soft washed or cleaned at low pressure instead. We never trade a clean surface for a damaged one.

Do you do commercial concrete and loading areas?

Yes. Sidewalks, entryways, loading docks, ramps, and dumpster pads are all standard work, alongside residential driveways, walkways, patios, and pavers. Call or text 973-897-1757 and we'll come look at it.
